In our effort to improve RoboDomain design and usability, after domain and transaction sections there was one more area which required some changes: the RoboDomain dashboard.

The dashboard is the first page you see when you login. It should provide you an immediate status of your account, including of course your domains and transactions. While the existing dashboard provided all these details, we agree that it wasn’t that clear especially when you start to have an high number of information stored on your account.

Last week we decided to include the dashboard update in our weekly development iteration. First, we sat down and created a list of all information we absolutely wanted the dashboard to include:

  • The information about the number of expiring domains
  • A list of the recently updated domains, including an immediate overview of the domain details
  • A list of the most recent transactions
  • The ability to create a domain
  • The ability to access the latest news and updates for the application

Then we started brainstorming on potential new prototypes. We eventually end up with a final mockup which was very similar to the final version. We added a bit of interaction, a touch of color and voilĂ  the new dashboard.

The new page includes all the information we wanted to display in a more accurate organization. At the top of the page, there is a number-based overview of your account. We also made your account feeds more visible moving them to the top of your screen.

On the left side, you can see the list of the recently updated domains. The first element is fully visible by default while all the other domains are collapsed to reduce the length of the page. You can click on the plus/minus icon to expand/collapse every single item in the list.

As I said before, we wanted to show you an immediate overview of every domain in the list. You can expand a domain to see hosting information, dates as well as whois and network details. If the domain is expiring, we also change the color of the expiration date and we immediately notify you with a visible icon.

On the right, you have access to the “add a domain” form as well to other kind of information about the application and your account.

We hope you enjoy this new dashboard design as much as we did working on it!
